Verde Tech Group has made agribusiness a priority because of its potential for broad development impact and long term growth potential. We combine our experience and advisory services in an environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive way. We also support global initiatives for sustainable production of agricultural commodities and bioenergy crops.
Interest and demand in agricultural commodities is climbing fast; population growth in the last fifty years has exploded and is occurring at the fastest pace in history, and super-size populations in developing economies like China and India are spending their newly found wealth on food; requesting a more resource-intensive, western-style diet.
It is this backdrop of growing demand for food, land and energy, together with a lessening supply of productive assets, that is causing significant value growth in the agribusiness sector.
Global Food Security
Over the past five years, the world has been hit by a series of economic, financial and food crises that have slowed down, and at times reversed, global efforts to reduce poverty and hunger, driving up food prices.
Today, price volatility and weather shocks around the world continue to severely undermine such efforts. In this context, promoting livelihood resilience, food and nutrition security has become central to the policy agendas of governments.
Smallholder farmers need to be at the centre of this agenda, and with the right opportunities, highly profitable partnerships can be formed and we believe this will be a driving force in the agribusiness for food security going forward.
Furthermore, agricultural productivity is close to the limit of expansion using current technology, and millions of hectares of irreparable and irreplaceable productive land are lost every year to urban expansion, climate change and a host of other factors. This has created many new market opportunities in which the company can capitalise on.
“The agriculture sector offers a host of opportunities to expand our participation in the growth and income derived in the agribusiness market”
With our management team having placed capital in the production, processing, transportation, storage and feedstock crops for environmental products, we have now focused our attention to areas of agricultural waste, biomass, and bioenergy opportunities.
Verde Tech Group has secured and evaluated the benefits of growing various bioenergy crops on marginal land, sections of farmland that are sub-optimal for growing food.
Bioenergy crops are used for co-firing with coal in power stations, in local combined heat and power plants, and in the production of biofuels. Bioenergy crops have become increasingly important as so-called “second generation” solid and liquid biofuels, derived from the cellulose in plant biomass have become commercially viable.
The agribusiness industry is changing rapidly. Global demand will require a 50%+ increase in production of major agricultural crops over the next 20 years. Sources of new land are limited; therefore, greater yield is critical to meeting the ever-increasing global demand.
As such, agriculture represents an enormous opportunity for us to continue to build on, along with our partners, both in terms of the sheer scale and opportunities available.
We understand the agribusiness market and the issues and challenges that drive performance. Verde Tech Group has a network of agribusiness industry experts across various sectors, including: feedstock providers, growing and sourcing, harvesting, transport and distribution.
